UNDP in partnership with Dalberg handed COVID-19 prevention materials to the most vulnerable population

December 9, 2020

UNDP has partnered with Dalberg Advisors through Safe Hands Ethiopia Initiative to hand over 720,000 face masks and 720,000 soaps to low income communities in Addis Ababa.

The handover was conducted in Addis Ketema Sub-city, an area that was hard hit at the beginning of the pandemic in 2020. More than 160 households from various sub cities will benefit from the products.

UNDP joined the Safe Hands Ethiopia COVID-19 Coalition back in September 2020 as part of UNDP’s wider COVID-19 response to prevent, manage and more importantly to mitigate impacts of the pandemic.

UNDP provided 18 million ETB (USD 500,000) through Dalberg Catalyst to support sustainable production and dissemination of sanitary materials along with health communication messages.

The initiative targets low income communities in a densely populated sub cities in Addis Ababa that struggle with limited access to water, soap, masks and other compounding challenges.

Partners such as Addis Ababa Mayor’s Office and ROHA played a crucial role in the realization of this initiative.

UNDP will continue to strengthen further partnerships with CSOs to support international efforts around strengthening COVID19 response.
