Nomination for the 2019 Oslo Business for Peace Awards is now open

Aug 31, 2018

UNDP, in cooperation with the Business for Peace Foundation (BfPF), the International Chambers of Commerce (ICC) and the UN Global Compact (UNGC) is pleased to announce that the nomination for the 2019 Oslo Business for Peace Awards is now open. This is the 10th anniversary of the Business for Peace Award and it will be presented to the 2019 winners at Oslo City Hall on 15th May 2019.

In 2012 UNDP joined a partnership with the BfPF, and the ICC in collaboration with the City of Oslo, to embark on a worldwide search for ‘business worthy’ leaders from all segments of the population. The challenge was to identify individuals that have achieved outstanding accomplishments by acting ethically and responsibly in business, and by creating shared value between business and society.

UNDP’s extensive country-based network and knowledge of the local development success stories has enabled the Awards to draw important lessons beyond the well-established names in the arena of business and corporate social responsibility.

Here in Ethiopia, UNDP is actively engaged in promoting ethical and innovative businesses through an Entrepreneurship Development Programme (EDP) that offers training and business advise. Since the programme's launch in 2013, over 70,000 Ethiopian have been trained by the Entrepreneurship Development Centre. Over 60,000 new jobs have also been created by entrepreneurs who have gone through the training and access business advisory services. Our intervention in the area of clean energy is also promoting the engagement of small enterprises in renewable energy, particularly targetted at the rural population.
