Twenty-two pilot districts in the regions of Afar, Gambella, Benishangul-Gumuz and Somali have implemented their very first Value Chain Investment Plans with support received from the United Nation Capital Development Fund and the United Nations Development Programme in Ethiopia.

This has been conducted within the framework of the Developing Regional States (DRS) Joint Programme which brings together various United Nations agencies to support the development of the regional states of Afar, Gambella, Benishangul-Gumuz and Somali.

A newly established agricultural marketing union, ‘Tokuma’, in Maokomo special district of  Benishangul-Gumuz region, and the milk collection and selling points run by women's cooperatives in Assayta (Afar region) represent the first tangible results accomplished in promoting sustainable livelihoods using the value chain approach.
