Poverty Reduction and Millennium Development Goals

Reducing poverty and working towards the achievement of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) is one of the four corporate focus areas of UNDP's work in Ethiopia.

In this focus area, UNDP aims to support national capacity building to bring about inclusive economic growth and development, within the context of the Plan for Accelerated and Sustained Development to End Poverty (PASDEP). More specifically, UNDP's assistance is provided in the following priority areas:

  • Promotion of accelerated pro-poor growth through the identification and implementation of Economic Growth Corridors (EGCs) in Ethiopia;
  • Support to private sector and trade promotion; and
  • Support to mainstreaming of the Millennium Declaration and the Millennium Development Goals in all development programmes in Ethiopia.

Gender equality and the use and application of ICT are integral programmatic areas that UNDP will ensure during project interventions.
