What we aim to accomplish and how much we have accomplished so far

12469 - Recovery Strategy for Ethiopia
Expected Results
 

Gaps in information collection, analysis and dissemination identified, capacity development support to establish linkage between humanitarian response and food security provided, personnel support to bridge technical gap provided.

Achieved Results
 

The agency has been supported through procurement of vehicles, communication equipment, shelter materials, kitchen utensils, rub halls to strengthen the capacity in non food areas.The DPPA information center was also supported through procurement of IT equipment, assignment of International and national staff to support the modernization process. Independent evaluation was carried out by international consultant, need assessment conducted and discussed among stakeholders, Digital library established. Final report submitted to CID and another report to USAID is under preparation.
Assessment to identify gaps carried out and findings discussed among multi-stakeholders, digital library established, capacity building training provided for DPPA staff.



39607 - Basket Fund for Electoral Assistance
Expected Results
 

Capacity Development support to the National Electoral Board of Ethiopia (NEBE), Support to CSO/NGOs for Civic and Voter Education, Support for Political Party Agents, training for Judges and Prosecutors on Electoral Disputes, Support to Media on promotion and Objective and wider Election Coverage, Support to Women to engage politically.

Achieved Results
 

Most expected results have been met. The 2005 National Elections and 2008 Local and by elections have been conducted. Preparations for both Election Days  proceeded smoothly with election materials distributed to the 30,000+ polling stations. There was increased public profile of the NEBE during e elections, including press conferences, Joint Political Party Forum, and interaction with election observers. For the National Elections, over 220,000 visitors to NEBE website made access to information easier and improved professionalism of Board.Voter turnout during both Elections was close to 90%. Quotas of airtime for political parties were met and political parties given free access.



40091 - Institutional Support for Trade Integration and Implementation of the Integrated Framework (IF) Plan of Ethiopia
Expected Results
 

Strengthened MoTI & ECCSA with  technology equipment,  commission for impact assessment study, preparation for WTO negotiation

Achieved Results
 

Conducted impact assessment studies on SPS, TBT, TRIMS & custom valuation.
Strengthen the WTO reference center with office machines, books, internet and the center is serving as a source of information for those interested in WTO & related areas. 
For easy access of information website developed for Export Promotion Dept at MoTI.



41010 - Food Security and Agricultural Development
Expected Results
 

Revitalization of FS Coalition process supported, improved livelihood for resettled communities promoted institutional capacity developed, social mobilization manual drafted.

Achieved Results
 

Draft social mobilization manual developed, economic activities and social services in areas of education, health and water supported.
Education and health facilities in the resettlement villages strengthened, social mobilization manual drafted, Capacity development support provided to FSR institutions, support for the establishment of Ethiopian Commodity exchange  provided.



51960 - Human Security Project (Coordinated Rural Development in IDPs and Refugee impacted areas of Somali Region
Expected Results
 

Income/livelihood diversified, social services improved to pastoralists, capacity development to government and civil society promoted, environment rehabilitation and development strengthened.

Achieved Results
 

Community based saving and credit system developed, 10 income generation women groups established and seed capital provided, Artisan training on ventilated latrine and fuel saving stoves provided. 8 Veterinary clinics and livestock handling facilities constructed, water supply schemes rehabilitated and shallow wells dug, Alternative basic education facilities constructed, Hafir dam constructed,  Nursery stations established and about half a million seedlings raised and planted. Different capacity development training on gender, conflict prevention, social mobilization and HIV/AIDS provided.



55956 - Support to Ethiopian Human Rights Commission
Expected Results
 

Enhance the capacity of the EHRC to receive investigate and follow up on complaints related to breaches of Human Rights,  Increase the capacity of the institutions regional Presence, Expand public outreach programs and public awareness on Human Rights.

Achieved Results
 

Various operational Manuals and work guidelines  for the institution have been developed and put into use,  Media and other IEC materials have been used extensively to raise Public awareness and promote Human rights.



55959 - Capacity Building of the Ethiopian Institute of the Ombudsman (EIO)
Expected Results
 

Enhance the capacity of the Ethiopian Institute of the Ombudsman to receive investigate and follow up on complaints related to mal-administration  and Expand public outreach programs and public awareness on the activities of the institution.

Achieved Results
 

Various operational Manuals and work guidelines  for the institution have been developed and put into use,  Capacity building trainings have been conducted to strengthen the professional staff to discharge their responsibilities and equip them with necessary tools. Media and other IEC materials have been used extensively to raise Public awareness and promote Human Rights.



56009 - Support to Federal Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission
Expected Results
 

Enhance the capacity of FEACC to receive investigate and follow up on complaints related to corruption, and expand public outreach programs resulting in public awareness on ethics and anti-corruption.

Achieved Results
 

Capacity building trainings have been conducted to strengthen the institution's  staff and various ethics and civic clubs, teachers, students, women and youth associations.  Media and other IEC materials have been used extensively to raise Public awareness and Ethics and Anti- Corruption.



56214 - Support to National Electoral Board of Ethiopia
Expected Results
 

Project will be closed at the end of 2008. Reports are currently being compiled. The new Democratic Institutions program is expected to take over further capacity building activities of the institute.

Achieved Results
 

Electoral Bodies institutional capacity strengthened.



56215 - Justice Sector Reform Program
Expected Results
 

Strengthen teaching and research capacities of law schools to produce legal texts on Ethiopian laws that enhance the teaching learning process.

Achieved Results
 

PHD and LLM Programs have been successfully negotiated with UK and US Universities and offices have been set up in Addis Ababa.  Law school professors have been trained on pedagogy and leadership, Law journals have been published quarterly.



56490 - HIV/AIDS and Development
Expected Results
 

Training in HIV/AIDS mainstreaming institutionalized in regional mangement institutes and higher learning instituts    
Leadership capaicty of regional HAPCOs,  sector offices and CSOs improved    
Coordination, planning and monitoring capacity of federal and regional HAPCOs strengthened

Achieved Results
 

HIV/AIDS mainstreaming training provided for government sector focal persons at regional levels

56570 - Food Security and Recovery
Expected Results
 

Institutions in areas of food security operating in the 4 regions mapped out, food security database  established,social mobilization manual developed and translated into local languages, Capacity Building support provided to resettled communities and the Ethiopian Commodity Exchange .

Achieved Results
 

Social Mobilization manual developed, popularized and translated into 3 local languages. Celebration of annual farmers' festival to reward development patriots initiated, Livelihood diversification for voluntarily settled population promoted,  The Ethiopian Commodity Exchange established and became fully operational.



56830 - Capacity Development for Effective Delivery
Expected Results
 

The project  primarily assist  effective and efficient  implementation of all programs and projects  in supporting  the the development of capacities of implementing partners . The implementation capacity of counter parts  has been improved in the areas of Financial management, asset inventory, NEX audit rectification, etc.
The project will contribute to one of  the UNDAF outcome "Contribute to the achievement of Millennium Declaration principles through enhanced democratic empowerment and participation at grassroots level through justice sector reform, civil service and civil service society capacity Building and promotion of declaration at all levels, including upholding of human right principles, transparency and accountability".

Achieved Results
 

Timely feed back through back to office report indicates that different technical supports have been rendered to IPs for effective and efficient implementation of project and programs. As a result, there is a  tendency of improvement in Financial management, maintaining books of account , rectification of NEX audit findings, inventory of project asset and the like.
Implementation capacities of counter parts particularly of " BoFEDs"has shown  a progress  in terms of coordinating, managing and undertaking quality assurance of UN  assisted programs .

57754 - Migration for Development in Ethiopia (MIDEth)
Expected Results
 

  1. Develop systems and procedures for the recruitment and deployment of the skilled Ethiopian Diaspora;
  2. Institutionalize the mobilization and utilization of human and other resources of the Ethiopian Diaspora;
  3. Develop systems and manuals to enhance the capacities of the Government;
  4. Assist the Government in development of policy guidelines and regulatory frameworks to institutionalize the participation of the Diaspora in the socio-economic development;
  5. Strengthen the institutional capacities of the Government at all levels, to develop and long-term viable resource transfer programme for the qualified, skilled and resourceful Ethiopian Diaspora; and
  6. Develop strategies to maximize the contribution and impact of remittance to development in Ethiopia.
(NOTE: These are the results to be achieved in 3 years of project implementation. However, UNDP support to the project ($500,000) is for the 1st year of project implementation.)

Achieved Results
 

  1. Systems and procedures development for the recruitment and deployment of the skilled Ethiopian Diaspora; and
  2. 104 Diaspora medical professionals visited Ethiopia for two weeks, and deployed in four hospitals. They undertook many life-saving operations, such as open heart surgeries (the facility is not available in Ethiopia), on the patients. Through operations and treating the patients, they transferred the knowledge and skills to the local medical professionals. Besides, the Diaspora Groups donated multi-million dollar cost of medical equipment and medicines to the hospitals where they were deployed.

Achieved Results
 

  • Statistical work for PASDEP monitoring and evaluation developed and data management and dissemination facilities strengthened
  • Welfare Monitoring Survey and Household Income Consumption and Expense Survey are completed with the support from the DAG.
  • Assisted theformulation of PASDEP and  CSO perspectives on the draft PASDEP produced\
  • Community based poverty monitoring system launched in four regions and six woreda
  • Development of Economy-Wide Model for Ethiopia on progress



57887 - Enhanced Economic Growth
Expected Results
 

Strengthened Economic Growth Corridor (EGC) knowledge; A national strategic framework for developing and utilizing economic growth corridors ready; At least one economic growth corridor identified and studied well    ready for investment, Public-Private Partnership fostered;  Strengthened agro-industry and  promotion of pro-poor trade. 

Achieved Results
 

Two high policy forums helped strengthen EGC knowledge; Draft Public-Private Dialogue Forum manual ready; Agro-industry master plan drafted for three products.

Enhance the capacities of members of the Federal Parliament and its institutions.

Various trainings have been conducted for committee members to enhance their capacity on oversight, review legislation, planning & monitoring, and gender awareness.

59615 - Capacity Development of BoFEDs
Expected Results
 

Strengthen BoFEDs accountability, efficiency and effectiveness in the implementation of UN EXCom programmatic interventions.

Achieved Results
 

Recruitment and deployment of the National UNVs were delayed as MoU between UNICEF and UNDP was singed only on May 23, 2008 resulting in deployment of NUNVs  as of September 2008. So far 14 National UNVs for Oromia, Afar, Amhara, Benishangul Gumuz & Harari regions have been deployed.



61016 - Developing Local Capacity for the Achievement of the MDGs (DELCAP)
Expected Results
 

  1. Overall institutional capacities of BoFED and selected WoFEDs developed to a level in which the best practices of the planning, management and coordination of the projects are performed using the PIM;
  2. Overall institutional capacities of the Sector Bureaus, selected Woreda offices, schools, Farmers' Training Centres, developed to a level, in which public service delivery would be undertaken in a better way, and procures are in place for data collection, analysis and reporting on health;
  3. Over 18 research initiatives undertaken by the medical professionals in a conducive research environment, and over 50 health professionals used the research facilities in their work, having developed their career, knowledge and skills; and
  4. A user-friendly M&E system set up and functional in MoARD, linking the centre and several Regions, with the full ownership of the government.

Achieved Results
 

Since the implementation of activities started in the 2nd and 3rd quarters, it is not known yet the results.
