Integrated landscape management to enhance food security and ecosystem resilience in Ethiopia

What the project is about?

The Integrated Landscape Management (ILM) project is implemented to enhance long-term sustainability and resilience of food production systems by sustainabily managing key environmental resources.

ILM combines land management choices and Integrated Natural Resources Management (INRM) with water- and climate-smart agriculture, value chain support and gender responsiveness.  It ensures  multi stakeholder platforms, establish systemic  monitoring, learning and knowledge management as well as strengthening of instituitional frameworks for better policies that fosters sustainability and resilience.

Highlight of Project Activities

  • Support 240,000 farm households for improved soil and water management
  • Diversification of food production on 120,000 hectares of land to generate cash income through value chain development, market access, improve nutritional levels and increase genetic biodiversity
  • Restoration of 10,000 hectares of agro-pastoral systems with healthy environment and ecosystems including watershed protection, forage production, irrigation of pasture, maintenance of soil fertility, bio-diversity preservation, and improved breeds
  • Strengthening farming systems and market linkages to improve utilization, processing, preservation and storage of food
  • Establish a system of monitoring of ecosystems services and global environmental benefits within the project sites
