Creating an Operations Manual for CRGE Facility
A national consultation on the draft manual for the Climate Resilient Green Economy (CRGE) Facility was held on 9th July 2013 at Radisson Blu Hotel Addis Ababa. Several stakeholders, mainly from development partners and major sector ministries, were invited to the consultation to provide constructive feedback on the draft manual, to discuss and clarify the structure and functions of the CRGE facility.
Climate Resilient Green Economy (CRGE) Facility was established in September 2012 as the financial mechanism to support the realization of Ethiopia’s CRGE vision and goals. Since its establishment, various measures has been taken to make it operational, including, singing the memorandum of agreement with the UNDP Multi Partner Trust Fund Office and establishing the CRGE Facility Secretariat at the Ministry of Finance and Economic Development.
During the consultations, the stakeholders reflected on number of issues concerning the operationalizing the facility including ways of making contributions to the facility, choice of the different instrument for utilising the funds, means of accessing the facility, eligibility criteria for different entities, and the roles of different parties in the governance of the facility. The updated operations manual will be shared with partners once the collected feedback has been successfully incorporated to the initial draft.
United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) strongly supports Ethiopia’s efforts to pursue a Climate Resilient Green Economy and is proud to have been associated with the initiative from the start. UNDP channels its assistance through a comprehensive package of support for the strategic implementation of the CRGE. UNDP helps to develop institutional capacity and provides technical and financial support to five key ministries for coordinating and operationalizing the national CRGE strategy.
