Apr 13, 2013

Lecturers from Bahir Dar University, Alemfrie and Abebe are looking forward to share their new found knowledge with their students and also explore their own entrepreneurial potential.

Fifty-Five participants drawn from universities, technical & vocational schools, and microfinance institutions across Ethiopia graduated from an intensive six day Entrepreneurship Development workshop on Saturday 13th April 2013 in Addis Ababa.

A selected number of the graduates will go on to take part in a training of trainers workshop. The Entrepreneurship Development Programme seeks to train 25,000 trainers in the coming three years.

Speaking at the graduation ceremony of the third batch of trainees to undergo this type of training, Mr. Asfaw Abebe, Deputy Director General of the Federal Micro and Small Enterprises Development Agency (FeMSDA) underlined the government's acknowledgment that the development of a country depended on the quality of its entrepreneurs.

The Entrepreneurship Development Program was developed by Ministry of Urban Development and Construction (MUDCo) and UNDP to accelerate the country's growth and create job opportunities through tapping into the creativity and drive of existing and aspiring Ethiopian entrepreneurs.

Ethiopia’s Entrepreneurship Development Programme will provide training and comprehensive business advisory services to micro- and small-scale enterprises. The programme will develop enterprises of over 200,000.00 (two hundred thousand) entrepreneurs through provision of entrepreneurial skills training and business advisory services. In order to ensure the sustainability of the programme a further 20,000 trained as Business Advisors to support the implementation of the program.

The three year Programme, running from 2012-2015, will require USD 26.3 million, of which 6million USD has already been allocated by UNDP.

Ethiopia's Entrepreneurship Development Programme was officially launched by H.E. Prime Minister  Hailemariam Desalegn at the PM's Office in February 2013.
