Sustainable Economic Development
Ethiopia’s most recent poverty analysis report indicates that the national absolute poverty head count index is reduced from 38.7 percent in 2004/05 to 29.6 percent in 2010/11. For the same period, rural poverty has declined to 30.4 percent from 39.3 percent and urban poverty declined from 35.1 percent to 25.7 percent.
UNDP's approach in Ethiopia combines interventions that address economic growth as well as poverty reduction. UNDPhas supported the design of Ethiopia's multi-donor funded national Agriculture Growth Programme (AGP), which targets small and medium scale farmers. UNDP will annually provide the programme with one million USD during its implementation phase. As a natural follow up to its commitment to the capacity-building aspects of the AGP, UNDP, in collaboration with the Gates Foundation, is at the forefront of supporting the Agricultural Transformation Agency (ATA) with 3.6 million USD financing. more
