UNDP places a special focus on building the national capacity to integrate environmental considerations into development plans and strategies and provides innovative policy support, creates and builds strong partnerships particularly for securing resources. Support is also provided to Ethiopia to help it effectively implement programmes for a sustainable, low-carbon and climate-resilient development path at national and community levels.
UNDP has invested strongly in helping local communities to adapt to climate change and manage their natural resources better. It does this by promoting community-based natural resource management, sustainable utilization, mainstreaming agro-biodiversity conservation into farming systems and providing trainings in agro-forestry.
Indigenous communities are also supported with access to cost effective tools and knowledge to ensure sustainable management of protected areas and respond and overcome the consequences caused by climate change and more extreme weather events.
